Discover the Different Parts of a.40 Caliber Semi Automatic Hand Gun
Okay, now I would like to talk to you and describe some of the external parts of this 40 caliber semi automatic weapon that I have. The external parts pretty much would be the front sight post which aids in your aiming. We have a rear sight post which also in conjunction with your front sight post will make a person able to hit their mark. You have the slide obviously which moves which has external components but also has internal components. We will get into a little bit later. On this side of the firearm we have what we call the take down lever. This is what releases the slide from the lower receiver of the weapon for cleaning purposes. This here is what I would call a slide release. When this is to the rear and I depress this is sends the slide home. Now you could do that to either chamber around or if in a cycle of fire once the last round is fired out of a semi-auto it automatically locks the slide to the rear. If I were to put another magazine in and wanted to prepare my weapon to fire I would hit this and it would send around into the chamber into the barrel and now my weapon is ready to fire. On this side here we have what we call a magazine release. This weapon is not like a revolver where I put four or five individual rounds in it. I have one long magazine that I will demonstrate to you later and it holds approximately a certain number of rounds. That's inserted in the bottom of this weapon and the slide is activated which sends a round into the chamber. When I want to release that magazine I push this button and the magazine comes out of the bottom. I can put a new magazine in or I cannot, depending upon what I am trying to do. The trigger here is a mechanism that activates a firing pin inside which intern hits the primer on the round and causes it to fire. So we have the front sight post, the rear sight post, the trigger which is right here. Which is depressed to make the gun fire the weapon fire. Then take down lever for removing the bottom receiver from the slide. We have the magazine release. We have the slide release. And we have a hammer.
