Types of 19th Century Chairs: Children's Chairs

So collecting 19th century chairs I just want to show you another couple of examples here this is a really sweet little child's chair and the construction is really nice on this to. It's very typical of this late period this is really something that you'll see on these rounded filogree decorations that are added on to furniture. Just about anything if you see something like this you know its easily period around the 1870 or 1880's this construction is really, it's got the little foot rest for the child and the spindle rungs on the side. This one actually has bolted construction to the back of the chair and it has had a little bit of damage on it on the rungs which is not unusual when you got someone using a chair like this, putting there feet on it and kids don't sit still for very long. So you'll often see this part is damage on the chair and then these early child high chairs you'll find a lot of different varieties of them out there. Some of them have cane seats some of them have plank seats, some of them have trays that actually fit over the top and trays that fit on front for the child to have in front of them. Those are some examples of child seats I've had a number of the break down seat they actually fold down into a rocker and they stand up into a seat to put up the table. And it has little medal wheels on them I had a number of those in the shop but there's a lot of different variations of a child's chair. This is just one example and you'll find that this chair will run about $150 so that gives you one example of a child's chair, this other chair is interesting to. It's a small chair probably used for a child it has the Hitchcock type design on the back it's later, it's got the nice red paint to similar to the set of the 4 that we showed you here. It is a really nice chair with nice paint on it you can see the details here very similar to the sponge painting on the set of the 4 chairs with the rush seat on it. But obviously very small child size chair great example with a nice turning on the top and the great decorations, so this is just a couple of chairs child size for you to look at, but if you go to your reference books you'll find that there's all kinds of variations for 19th century child's chairs.
