Now, the open stroke roll is going to be achieved and played by playing really strong double beats. Each hand is going to play 2 beats before the other one. The tempo will really deepened. Those can all be notated the same way. They'll just be defined by the tempo. You're really going to want to have a strong double beat at whatever speed you're playing even once you get to the faster tempos. You're not really going to just kind of let it happen. You really have to stroke out both beats. Unlike buzz rolls, you're mainly going to want to stay in the center for most of these. Sometimes you'll play an open stroke roll at halfway for a little bit of a different sound, but very rarely at the edge. For the most part, open strokes rolls are played in the center of the drum.
