Types of Rolls

Now I am going to explain a little bit about how the rolls are going to be different on the concert snare drum and the marching snare drum. On the concert snare, you are not so much going to hear the 30 second note open stroke rolls like you would in the marching snare. In a concert setting, it is not very applicable. You are going to hear more of a buzz roll. For the concert snare drum, you are going to want your individual buzz on each hand to be a little bit longer and looser than that of a marching snare drum. Now on the marching snare, yuou are going to want to apply a little more pressure and you are going to want to tighten up the sound and make the buzzes short. You can hear how just the general drum is a lot more crisp and less open and you are going to want to change the sound of your buzz roll accordingly.
