How to Replace the Top Drum Head

Now that we've got everything cleaned off and our lugs lubricated, you can either take the old head which I am about to do here and take a new drum head and you can reapply it to the top of the drum. You are going to want to make sure that the logo on the drum head is in the same place every drum you do this to. What I like to do is put the logo between the 2 lugs that are the closest to the body, I'll show you right here. Because when you are playing on the drum, more like a half way, the edge and you are playing directly on the logo, it is going to start to mangle a little bit and it will look a little less appealing. So right here this is really a zone on the drum that you don't play too much and it will really stay away from the sticks playing directly on it. So once you've got the head where you want it, pick up the rim and kind of place it on there with the lugs over the socket. You are really going to want to make sure wherever you were playing rim shocks before is really the same place. So my rim shocks are almost here so I am going to rotate slightly. Got to make sure it is seated on the head correctly and what you can start to do is finger tie all the lugs and make sure they are threaded in the socket. Also when you are doing this, you've got little pieces right here. Kind of these squared off washes. You want to make sure those are correctly placed in there.
