How Tube Amps Differ From Solid State Guitar Amplifiers
Hi my name is Tim Ambrosuis. I am a professional guitar technician for ExpertVillage.com and I am going to explain to you the difference between a tube amplifier and a solid state amplifier. On a tube amplifier what you have is the power comes from these 4 vacuum tubes or it might just have 2 vacuum tubes or maybe even just 1, it is going to provide the power to the amplifier. And then you are going to have pre-amp tubes anywhere from 3 to 5 or less or more, that is just generally what they have and that is going to provide your pre-amp sound, it is going to shape the guitar sound when it comes into the front of the amplifier. On a solid state amplifier you cannot really see it because in the inside of the amplifier it is going to be a bunch of transistors instead of all of these. And that is going to process your sound, it is going to be a lot more compact, a lot lighter and it is going to give you a lot of different sound.
