Removing the Carburetor of a Lawn Mower

Hi, my name is Peter Gutwein and today we’re talking about some minor repairs to a mower. One of the common problems is a dirty carburetor from bad fuel or some water getting in there and we’re going to take the carburetor out this one so that we can clean it. So what you want to do is go ahead and get a 5/16 tool on this mower and pull out the air filter and then it’s also 5/16, go ahead and remove the backing plate here and then you got anywhere from one to two holes that are on your carburetor and you can just take a pair of pliers and kind of just wobble them up, here you go. You have to make sure you are able to shut off the fuel, on this on it actually has a fuel shut off so then it won’t leak gas all over the place. So once you get the wheels off from the primer line, on this case on most don’t have a primer line but this one does and then you want to go ahead and remove your carburetor. On this mower it’s a 3/8 bolt and then your carburetor will still be hanging there, you kind of just brush off and then you have to turn it to the side here to get the linkage off the top here and then there you have it. Then you have your carburetor and obviously you can see that this one is very dirty and need to clean, which we’ll talk about in a little bit here.
