Hi I'm Joyce Danielson for Expert Village. Hand washing sweaters keeps them softer longer but can change the shape of your sweaters if not done carefully. It is recommend that you soak water in sudsy lukewarm water for 5 minutes and gently squish your sweater to let the soap soak through the fibers. Rinse in lukewarm water until the suds are completely removed and the water is clear. Using the same squishing action never ringing. Roll the sweater in a towel to remove the extra moisture and proceed drying process. Lay it flat to dry and block it to desire shape, using special care because wool fibers could lift and stretch outer shape. Your sweater would take the shape that is put into when it is dry so this is a very important part of its care. Once it is thoroughly dry your sweater could be gently tumble in the home dryer at a cool temperature to make the fibers bloom this is known as air drying. If your sweater is stained dry clean is the best solution. Natural fibers need to break or they start to break down, avoid storing them in a dry cleaning bag or a seal plastic container.
