Hi! I'm Jeff Wong with Expert Village and today we are going to learn how to change a flat tire. The first step in removing a flat tire is to remove either the hubcap or the center cap that may block the lug nuts. To do so, simply pry the edges of the cap until it becomes loose and then remove it from the vehicle. You will want to use the tire iron to loosen each one of the lug nuts before you raise the vehicle off of the ground, but you only need to loosen the lug nuts slightly because once the vehicle is in the air, the whole tire will turn when you try to loosen the lug nuts. Be sure that your tire iron is all the way on the lug nut before you begin loosening. Otherwise, you may strip the nut. To loosen the lug nut, turn the tire in a counterclockwise fashion. If the lug nut does not want to move, additional pressure may need to be applied by stepping on the tire iron. This should break the nuts loose. Now repeat this step with all the other lug nuts until they are all loose. Now we are ready to raise the car.
