Arm Movements for traditional Mexican Dancing

Since we're talking about Mexican folklorico dance on behalf of Expert Village, we're going to talk our arms, which are very important for folkorico dance. Our arms they play a big role in this because, especially for women. Men tend to have their arms back here, but women are always showing their skirt, how the skirt moves. A basic movement for the skirt would be within folding your arm and making a slight circle with it and the skirt will do it's part if you do that properly. You want to keep your elbow up, so make sure you don't drop your elbow. You want to keep your elbow up. Same thing. That's how you do with both arms. Sometimes you will do both arms. Sometimes you will alternated. Now, that's the arms. The relationship between shoulder arm and arms and torso. The arms are not too close to your body because then you wouldn't allow the skirt to move, and not too far because then you will look uneven and you won't look symmetrical. Most of the times that you move your right arm, your torso goes opposite or it will lean to the arm you're moving. If I'm doing my left arm, my torso will lean to my left, to my right, to my left, to my right, to my left, to my right, or it could be slightly forward. Your torso could also move slightly forward depending which arm you're moving. It's side to side or forward, forward. That's what are arm would do. Keeping elbows up and making the arms go in circles.
