Performing Turns in Advanced Ballet Dancing

So, the next step we are going to focus on is chaines'. This you can do across the floor because it's a traveling step. The first thing you consider is that a chaine' travels with first position. So you're just taking small little steps and your feet stay in first position, but you're just up on your toes. That's a chaine' without the turn. The next thing you consider is that you're spotting while you're turning. A spotting exercise that's really easy to do is that you stand facing a wall and turn your body until you can't keep your head there anymore and then turn it back around and find that one spot that you were looking at and you keep doing that until you get faster and faster. That's just a spotting exercise to work with. So putting those two concepts together, you can start at the corner of one room and you add the small step with the spot, turning and opening and closing your arms and that's a chaine'.
