So the next step that we're going to learn is grand battement, which means "large beating". It comes from the tandue and the de gage that we learned earlier. Its just a larger exaggeration of those movement. Tandues stay on the floor, de gage was the disengaging off the floor and the grand battement is all the way to the full extent. So, you start in fifth position. Your legs are tightly squeezed together using your inner thighs and outward rotators. And then pressing into the floor to make that tandue, you grande battment all the way to the full extent and close back down. Grand battement to the side and then you tandue and bring it back in. Grand battement to the back, tandue, bring it in. And the same thing again to the side. So when you do a grand battement you want to make sure you're going through that first tandue position, bringing it all the way up, back to the tandue, and then back to the closing tightly, where your weight is distributed on both feet. That's grand battement.
