How to Change a Chainsaw Sparkplug

Hi! I'm Drew Finn here for Expert Village. Today we are going to talk about how to use and maintain a chainsaw. We are going to show you how to change a spark plug on this chainsaw. This needs to be done periodically. If you have trouble starting, obviously if you have gas, one of the first things I do is change the spark plug or if the performance is dropping, try changing the spark plug. I change mine about every 20 hours or so. Check with your manufacturer's recommendations in your book but anyhow here is how we change it. We pop off the covers, remove the wire, use their universal tool, counterclockwise we will loosen the plug, remove it and then get a new one. When you are screwing it in, make sure you don't cross thread it. It sure screw in very easily. If you have it off at an angle and you turn it a little bit and it jams, back it off and then start it again. So you run it down. You want a good snug. You don't have to break the thing off. Good and snug. Then you pop the wire, line it up and push on it firmly. It should be down nice and tight and we replace the cover. We should be ready to go. When changing a spark plug, you should do it about every 20 hours. Check with your maintenance manual and see what your particular saw manufacturer recommends or if you are having performance problems and you just don't have the power or you are having difficulty starting it, I would change the spark plug.
