Hi! This is Dave Smith with Hillcrest Ski and Sports in Gresham, Oregon on behalf of Expert Village. In this tutorial we will cover beginning skiing. In this clip we'll cover how to practice with one ski. For many beginners it's easier to practice getting around on one ski on before you actually put two skis on and try to get down the hill. Choose one of your skis and put it on one foot. Practice gliding on that one foot and stopping yourself with your boot if needed. Practice going around in circles turning and controlling your ski making it do what you want it to do. Then, take that ski off and put your other ski on and do the same things with that ski. This is a great technique to practice especially if you've never been on snow before. It'll help you get the feel for sliding on the snow and using your metal edge to grip the snow. It'll also help you to control your skis which will come in handy when we start turning. And it can be done anywhere on a very flat surface is ideal where you don't have to get on any kind of lift or roped hill.
This is a great set of videos for the first time skier. Everything will make so much more sense if you watch these videos before you go. Dave Smith did a great job!
