Hi! This Is Dave Smith with Hillcrest Ski and Sports in Gresham, Oregon on behalf of Expert Village. In this tutorial we will cover beginning skiing. In this clip, we'll cover the decision of whether to rent or buy ski equipment. For many beginners renting is a good option. It'll help you determine if skiing is something you want to stick and something you enjoy. Many places rent skis. You can start by looking in the phone book for sporting good stores that sell ski equipment or you could rent at the mountain where you're going to be skiing. A daily rental of skis, boots, bindings, and poles generally will cost you $25-$30. Many rental places also offer season rentals, which can run anywhere from $200-$350. There are some benefits to buying your own equipment. First of all, you can get equipment that you know fits you perfectly every time you use it. Also, you may be able to get more comfortable with this equipment, which may progress your skiing at a faster rate. The off season or the end of a season is a good time to buy equipment because you could get deals. If you're going to be buying, this may be a good time to check out equipment.
