Jambo, that means hello and you'll definitely want to know that if you're traveling to Africa. My name is Melissa Schenk on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to talk about some things that you'll want to know before traveling to Africa and also how to survive in the African Wilderness. In this clip I wanted to give you a bit of background information about the climate itself in Africa in particular in Uganda which is what I know best. Uganda really does enjoy a tropical climate that's tempered by its altitude. The country is generally flat, the average altitude is about 1,000 meters and due to that really high altitude temperatures range usually from between about 21 to 25 degree Celsius. I have to say one of the best things about Africa is the color of the sky. You will never see sunsets anywhere like it in the world, they are purple and oranges in color, probably due to the lack of technology there that if you live in Canada or the United States and North America we don't see these colors everyday when look up in towards our skies. So again temperatures range between about 21 to 25 degree Celsius and some of the mountain areas like Mt. Elgon and the Ruwenzori Mountains they're even cooler and the top of both mountains do even experience snow at some times. Now the hottest period of the year in Uganda is from December to February when the temperature will rise to about 29 degrees. The beauty of Africa is that even though it's warm and you do experience a bit of humidity you don't get the real wet humidity that you do in North American for the most part. It's just a nice general heat. I also wanted to mentioned to you that the country does experience 2 rainy seasons. The rainy season would be from April to May and October to November and April is usually the wettest month of the year. The north does however have a wet season that lasts from about April to October but the best times again to visit Uganda would be from December to March or from June to September.
