How to Spot Wildlife in African Wilderness

Jambo, that means hello and you'll definitely want to know that if you're traveling to Africa. My name is Melissa Schenk on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to talk about some things that you'll want to know before traveling to Africa and also how to survive in the African Wilderness. In this clip let's talk about spotting wildlife. There are so many different types of animals in Africa but you also want to be careful about coming close the animals because they are wild. In addition of course to the star gorillas in Africa especially in Biwindi Impenetrable Forest, Biwindi is a rain forest so when you're out there spotting wildlife you might want to make sure that you brought your walking boots and gloves, a raincoat because as I said it's a rain forest. But we're talking about things that you might see like lions and elephants and zebras and I'm not sure if you're aware of this but in Africa, Uganda and Biwindi Impenetrable Forest there are over 300 species of birds including some of their rare forest birds. There's 14 different types of snakes, snake species. There are 27 different species of frogs and toads. Six types of different chameleons, more than 14 different types of lizards, more than 200 different species of butterflies. You can see there so many animals out there but a great guide to spot on a lot of wildlife, one-pick the right time of the day. The best time to spot especially game like lions and elephants and zebras would be at dawn and at dusk. At midday the sun is really hot and the animals much like ourselves prefer to siesta under the shade of a tree. They don't want to be out because most people we don't want to be out in the sun and heat sometimes and a lot of animals don't want to either. If you're driving in your Landrover perhaps, they're usually really far away from the road that you're driving on. It's very important to go with the guide when spotting wildlife, you want to again in the wilderness it's really good to take a guide with you for your entire trip if you can afford to and know where to look. A lot of people don't know how to look up trees, you want to spot a leopard look in the rivers if you want to see crocodiles, but look in trees if you want to spot a leopard. Be smart about where you're looking and honestly if you want to know how close an elephant is all you have to do is look for large piles of elephant dump. I hate to say it but where the elephant has last left his business is a pretty sure sign that they're not too far away. And finally too don't forget to bring binoculars with you. Most people forget that when they go, you can get even a little cheap pair of binoculars, because you don't want to travel heavy. But when traveling a good idea especially when you're in the wilderness bring a pair of binoculars with you.
