Jambo, that means hello and you'll definitely want to know that if you're traveling to Africa. My name is Melissa Schenk on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to talk about some things that you'll want to know before traveling to Africa and also how to survive in the African Wilderness. Now in this clip I know we've been talking a lot about safety but safety is key no matter where you travel but especially in Africa. So in this clip I just wanted to touch on terrorism. Now I know that's probably the last thing on your mind, but while I was in Africa this was back in 1998 and 1999 for 2 1/2 months, I came back in February and I don't know if you can recall what was going on in the news back then, but around that time I was about 2 weeks from coming home or after I had come home that there was a terrorist attack right where I was in Biwindi Impenetrable Forest, it's now called Biwindi National Park. But there was a terrorist attack. Now you have to keep in mind if you're going to the African Wilderness and you're staying sort of out of everyone's way and doing your own thing, that's a great thing to be thinking about and doing. A lot of terrorism occurs where all the tourist attractions are. For instance in Uganda it would be along the Nile River, in Biwindi Impenetrable Forest, it would be whitewater rafting or looking for silver back gorillas. You can go silver back gorilla trekking. So they know where to look, but be safe and be cautious and it's always, always a good idea take someone with you, travel in pairs or pack. If you can if you can afford to hire a local, hire someone that you trust that has been perhaps recommended and guaranteed or backed up by a travel agency that can be your interpretor for you or that will go out traveling with you and teach you the lay of the land and what to look for in certain areas and in destinations.
