Jambo, that means hello and you'll definitely want to know that if you're traveling to Africa. My name is Melissa Schenk on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to talk about some things that you'll want to know before traveling to Africa and also how to survive in the African Wilderness. In this clip I just want to talk for a moment about if you are a victim of crime while Africa. Now I know we're talking about the African Wilderness but you have to pass through towns and cities to get to the African Wilderness. As I mentioned in a earlier clip in Uganda that would probably be the main area of Kampala. Now if you are a victim of crime, let's say you get robbed or mugged or conned while traveling in Africa, the first thing you're going to need to do is to fill out a police report and that will be an experience ending of itself. As I mentioned when I was in Africa I was working on a mountain biking and rock climbing documentary and we had one of our top mountain biker's bike stolen when you would least expect it. So a trip to the police station would be an experience ending of itself, but most insurance companies travel agencies, embassies, they're going to require a police report before they replace either your passport or your valuables or your tickets. So you're going to need to get that police report from the police station. Now, just be polite, be friendly, and yes you will have to agree to a fee if they ask you for one and it won't be a lot but they might ask you for a bit of money. Now you also want to contact your credit card company directly if your credit cards have been stolen and that's of course a no brainier. But you need to contact your embassy whether it be the Canadian, the American Embassy, if your passport is stolen. Now something you need to think about and keep in mind, if you see a thief run off with your belongings, I would encourage you to think twice about yelling thief and give chase, that depends, I would honesty say how old this person is. If it has been like a petty theft and it was a young boy, in Africa you definitely don't want to witness any sort of a mob beating of young boy, because it's really important in many African cultures that they do despise thieves and the locals will do with them. So you need to think about the action that you want to take if this happens to you, because it can be of a serious nature and if it is something like petty thief you don't want it to get too out of hand cause as I mentioned locals really do take theft very seriously and they do frown upon it of course.
