How to Remove a Motorcycle Wheel

On behalf of Expert Village my name is Seth Williams I work D-K service and I'm here to tell you about simple street bike brake repair and inspection. Okay first step in this process is like I said your going to remove the rear wheel from the motorcycle so we can get easier access to the braking components most of your street bikes will have a cotter pin in place to hold the lock nut on, so what you'll do if you can get at it with your fingers take a pair of needle nose pliers any kind will do grab it and just pry it out sometimes you have to pry sometimes you have to cut just depends on how old it is. Next I'm going to take my braker bar sometimes these are a little difficult to get off, this nut happens to be a 27 millimeter most of the motorcycles you work on will be metric so you'll be using millimeter sockets. Just like on any other thread if you have a specialty thread left is going to be to loosen the nut, now sometimes as you can see will have a problem with the swing arm spinning with the nut. So we have to grab a pair of pliers and prevent that from rotating so we can get it off, we'll start to loosen that up like I said sometimes these are difficult you'll get threads that are a little messed up, some of them will have a nylon locking element in there that will actually lock the nut to the bolt.
