Questions & AnswersThis is Randall Powell with Expert Village, and in this clip, we're going to talk to you about the proper nutrition for you horse. Horses need to have adequate grass around them or hay at least twice a day just to where they can kind of graze. They're grazing animals just naturally and it's always good to have them turned out where they can get a hold of some grass or have some hay sitting out. You also want to grain your horses. If you're using them quite a bit, you want a high protein grain of. If they're turned out a lot, you can switch to a lower protein sweet feed or pellet that is good enough just to keep them healthy and keep everything working inside their organs. If you live somewhere where it's really cold, you have to break the water if it freezes. They can have something to drink and then of course in the hot summer time you have to make sure there's plenty of water all the time for your horses. Like I said, you can go by the protein of your feed. Whatever you feed, grain, pellets or sweet feed. The protein just really depends on how often you use your horse. If you're using quite a bit and you're using pretty hard, he's going to need a higher protein formula food. Just make sure there's never any mold on the feed or on the hay. If the hay or the feed of any kind gets wet and sits, it'll mildew and get mold. That will cause horses to colic and get sick. You can potentially loose a horse through some molded feed. Just be careful when you're feeding your horses. Make sure everything's good. Those are the proper feeding accommodations for the horses.
