Hi! This is Eric with Spin City Cycling here in Austin, Texas and I am talking to you on behalf of Expert Village and one question that we get a lot in here is about pedals and shoes. Now there are a couple of different types of pedals that you are going to find on bikes. A flat pedal which is basically a pedal with nothing attached to it. You may see a flat pedal with a toe cage attached to it which is nylon strap with a plastic toe cage or metal toe cage. Then you've got the clip less pedal which is a system where you've got a cleat attached to a bottom of a shoe that actually clips into the pedal and provides a real secure attachment. In terms of cost, you are generally looking at a flat pedal is the least expensive. Something with a toe cage is a little more. Footless pedals may be a little more expensive. The benefits that you get out of going to something like a footless pedal is that as I mentioned, is a very secure connection. You don't have any movement, you are able to pull as well as push so you are getting powered throughput the entire pedal stroke and you are also able to control the bike a little better. Especially in situations like mountain biking where you may need to hop the back end of your bike around a little bit, it is a lot easier to do that with a clipless system. Now cycling shoes are different than tennis shoes or any other kind of shoes and not just because they usually look kind of weird, they have very stiff soles so that is when you pedal, you are loosing energy when your foot flexes around the pedal. They usually have some sort of Velcro closure system or maybe a ratchet. As you go up in price, you are going to get more sophisticated closure systems. This one has 3 Velcro straps. You are also going to find shoes that are able to have cleats attached to them. This shoe is a road shoe so it's got lots of different attachment points so that you can different types of cleats on here. The cleats that you will have to use come with the pedal and the shoes are usually sold without them. So hopefully this gives you a little bit of info when you are out looking for shoes and pedals. Thanks for watching.
