This is an excellent presentation. The instructions are very clear, and the host has a good on-screen presence. I was interested enough to try the recipe even though I'm not a vegetarian and have never had tofu. I modified the recipe a bit, using minced jarred garlic instead of garlic cloves, chicken bouillon instead of vegetable broth, and a dash of tabasco in place of the pepper flakes. I didn't think this would affect the recipe much since the other ingredients were pretty much in place. However, despite the very strong seasonings, this dish was virtually flavorless. That really surprised me since the sauce had such strong ingredients. Tofu is supposed to absorb flavors, but I didn't think it would make them disappear!

Making a Vegetarian Stir Fry Recipe

We'll be making our tofu vegetable stir fry. One of the first ingredients you'll need is some frozen Asian vegetables; a mix of broccoli, red peppers, mushrooms, baby corn, water chestnuts. I use frozen just because it's a little bit easier but if you have more time you can also go to a farmer's market and pick out some fresh vegetables. You can also include boch choy or wide variety of beans as well. Next ingredient is tofu, you want medium firm to firm anything softer than medium firm is going to fall apart at you try to stir fry and cook with it. So I use refrigerated tofu, I find it that it has a much better consistency than something that's prepackaged on the pantry shelves. We'll need corn starch, 3 cloves of garlic, some red peppers and some salt. I use a vegetable broth, an organic vegetable broth in place of a chicken broth to keep the dish vegetarian. Some toasted dark sesame oil from Trader Jill's you can find toasted dark sesame seed oil pretty much at any grocery store, 100% canola oil as well and we'll be using some dark soy sauce. I find the darker the better, it has a really nice sweet and nutty flavor. And I also use reduced sodium soy sauce just because soy sauce itself can have a ton of sodium. And first we'll be starting by preparing our tofu.
