Stretching Exercises for the Hamstrings

Hi! I’m Angela on behalf of expertvillage.com, and right now I’m going to describe a way of stretching your hamstring. This is really important prior to running of dancing, because it you’re hyper-extending your legs you’re really likely to pull a muscle if you haven’t loosen them up before. In this exercise, you want to have your legs complete forward, toes facing the ceiling. Your first step is you want lift this leg, place it next to the knee, cross it over, and then you want to place your elbow on your knee right here, and just kind of pivot this way. You’ll immediately feel a stretch in the hamstring. It feels nice, it feels like you’re stretching out the muscle and everything, you’ll feel the strain. You want to be careful not to hyper-extend like this, because you’re straining your back. It’s very uncomfortable, and you’re also straining your muscle. You just want to do this slightly for about 15-30 seconds, and then you want to do it to the other leg as well.
