Stretching Exercises for the Legs Before Running or Jogging

Hi! I’m Angela on behalf of expertvillage.com, and right now I’m going to be telling you how to stretch your legs before running or any other kind of exercising. It’s very important that you do this, because if you don’t you’re more likely to injure your muscles, which will inhibit you from being able to exercise the day after or even maybe a week. With this exercise, you want to have an exercise mat, it’s very helpful too. You want to lie on your side like this, and you want to keep your lower leg extended then bring this one and bend it. I’m going to grab it with my hand and I’m going to pull back towards my buttocks. I’m also, if you notice, sticking my pelvis out slightly. This stretch is putting strain on this muscle right here. You don’t want to pull too far back or else you’ll strain this muscle. It’s just a very light pull. You want to hold this stretch for 15-30 seconds; it will get the most workout of the muscle. You want to watch out for pulsing like this. That’s what a lot people do when they’re in a rush to exercise. They think they accomplish more, but they actually damage the muscle.
