How to Play Polyrhythms

Hello my name is James Colonna from Cherry Hills Studios on behalf of Expert Village. In this next clip we're going to talk about polyrhythms, polyrhythms are basically when your taking 2 different things whether it's a duple or triple or a 4 and your going to mix them together. And by doing this your creating a mental state for yourself that allows you to think a little more outside the box, it allows you to understand motions a lot better when your start playing drums set, when you start playing hand drums you can move with these and you can start thinking in groups of 2 based over a group of 3, or a group of 3 based over a group of 4 and you start adding accents and motions and just by doing this you really take your drumming and your thinking into another level. To demonstrate these polyrhythms I'm going to play on this couch here and I'm going to be moving in sections, so your going to see at times 3 individual sections that I'm going to be playing on. Okay so I'm going to be moving from 1, 2, 3 or 1, 2, 3 or in groups in 2 just depending on the polyrhythm that we set aside.
