Hello my name is James Colonna from Cherry Hills Studios on behalf of Expert Village. In understanding basic techniques there are 3 things that you need to focus on approach, rebound, and velocity, in this clip we'll be talking about approach. When you approach a drum you need to approach it with confidence that is the most important thing is how confident are you when you play, nobody wants to go and watch a performer that doesn't have a little bit conceded edge to them. You know you need to approach a drum in a certain way that makes other people get drawn in, your approach also is to focus on 2 things. The V technique as well as making the second extension of your arm, if you master these 2 things you then well understand how you drum and how your body reacts to your drumming. Okay this is now understanding the V, when you are drumming and when you approach the drum the way that I look at it and again this is me the only you know there's no right or wrong way to do anything. This is I will see a V when I look down at my stick like there's white tape on here but there's a V right here like in the crescent of my fingers, and you want that with both hands. If you can keep this V while you move up and down then you will definitely start like to feel more consistency in your drumming, there won't be as many you know notes that are you know weak or strong, everything will be exactly the way you want it to be. Nice and smooth the same all the time you'll also notice that the stick it does come in extension with your arm, you know if you have it out like this your chicken winging it, your basically going to get a lot strain in your upper body and as well as your shoulder. If you bring it in your not going to be able to play with it as much aggression as much as velocity as your going to want to, again there's no right or wrong way to play this is just how I do it, this is how I found to be most helpful and you know advanced aggressive drumming.
