Sketching A Baby Stroller Fruit Centerpiece

Hi! I'm Karen for Expert Village. Now I'm going to show you how to make this cute little watermelon baby stroller. We'll start by choosing our watermelon. We want to purchase a long watermelon for the baby stroller. That's the best shape. I'm using a fairly small watermelon because I've got a lot of watermelons to cut today. You can choose a larger watermelon depending upon how large your crowd is. In addition to the watermelon, we're going to need 2 wooden skewers. I'm going to use one of the wooden skewers to etch our design. I'm going to start with the handle of the baby stroller. I'm going to choose the smaller end of the watermelon. This end is slightly smaller. This is a little bit wider so I'm choosing the smaller end. Actually, first I want to cut of the bottom to level my watermelon so it won't roll. You take a large knife and you just want to trim off just a small amount like that. That will give you a base to sit on and the watermelon won't be rolling around. Next, we're going to etch out our handle to our stroller. We'll just start with a straight line across like this. Then come down with a little bit of a curve on either side. Then I'm going to cut out. Just follow the same outline and we'll be cutting out a portion like that. There's the handle to our stroller. Now we'll work on the canopy. If you just measure down the middle and we're going to make a scalloped canopy. I'm just going to make little scallop marks and go all the way down as far as you want. If you want the stroller to be very low you can do that. About here is good. Then we'll draw a straight line from the bottom of our canopy to the handle of the stroller. We're just going to turn it around and repeat that on the other side. Here's our top. We're going to bring out scallops down. Do you see the indentation? The melon when you press on it with the skewer it leaves a mark so you don't need to use any markers or pens on your watermelon. It's a little nice. Now we're doing the line from the stroller handle to the canopy. Now, once we've sketched that, we can start cutting.
