More Materials, Supplies & Tools Needed for Candle Making
For Expert Village.com this is Matt Friedman, owner of the Blue Creek Candle Company. In this clip we will be talking about tools and materials part 2. To find out more about my candles, please go ahead and visit my website. You will also want to have some candle molds on hand. Depending on what your project is will which candle mold you will be using. I think that speaks for itself. If you are going to be using a container you may be using something like this glass jar here and make sure when you are using glass it is rated for candle making. You are also going to want to have some scent on hand. Make sure obviously you got your scents out and the scents you are going to be using for a given project. These come in various size bottles. This is one of the smaller. It is a 4 oz. bottle. I would suggest you having your dyes handy. This is a liquid dye and it comes in a small squeezable bottle and it just lets out small drops right into your wax. Some times if you are not using a wax that is already pre-blended you will need to put in additives. These will help with hardening the candle or creating opaqueness to the candle. As I mentioned earlier, you will have your wooden spoon. If you are creating a mold you are going to want to have some mold seal around hand. Mold seal is going to be placed right over that teeny hole after your wick has gone through it and when you are ready to pour candle your mold will actually sit upside down and the hole will be on the bottom. That is why we are covering it up with mold sealer. Some times to cut these hard blocks of paraffin you can either use a hammer or an extremely sharp knife. If you are going to use a knife, make sure that you are very careful with it, that you don’t accidentally cut yourself. You are also going to want to make sure that you have some type of a wick pin or small wooden rod. I use these to go across the mold when I am making a molded candle. You will be tying the end of your wick to this and it sets right across the bottom of the mold and holds your wick nice and straight during the pour. These are some of the basic things that you will need to have in order to create your candles. Do a little research and find out where you can get those and once you have a few of those items on hand, you will be able to go ahead and begin making some candles.
