Hello, I’m Corey Turner here on behalf of Expert Village.com and today we are talking about low budget movie making. Okay, you’ve got your script in front of you. Something we really should have talked about during production was having somebody mark down what your tape number’s are and what your sequence was when you filmed. Most of the time you are probably not going to use a slate so you are going to yell out what the counter is on your camera. You are going to put that down, write that on your script and that way when you are filming that scene you will know what tape to go to. We were talking about hard drives while ago. If you bring your entire movie into your hard drive you may have 120 to 150 jigs. What I found was better for my system to keep it running better was to go through find the scenes and find the tapes that I wanted and just bring those in. Bring in as many of the cut aways you can but just bring in the scenes you need and it will keep you from gumming up your system and you are just working with the films that you want. There are a lot of different computer programs on the market right now that you can edit with. Some of them are very expensive and some not so expensive. I use probably a medium priced one. It allows me plenty transitions, it’s easy, you got user friendly controls for cutting, splicing and putting the movie together. So what I do is go through and I do what I call a time edit. I edit the entire movie together the way I have it in my head and make sure that I am meeting time. Something we probably should have talked about in scripts and you are going to find when filming is usually one page of script is roughly one minute. If you have heavy dialogue scenes you are going to find out that those scenes usually run pretty fast so if your movie has a ton of dialogue you might want to make sure you have a lot of extra pages for that. So I do my entire edit and do my time edit and I make sure that I am where I need to be. I don’t need any extra shots. I’ve got everything that I need there. Go back through and watch that time edit and then I will start tightening it up. You want to make sure if you have someone walking across the field we don’t need to see all of them walking across the field. We want to do creative editing, bring it down, keep the shots moving and keep the things flowing. You don’t want your audience to get bored. So then I do a nice time edit and I bring my friends in or bring my other people in my company. You sit down and watch the full edit. Don’t get your feelings hurt. It is about the best product. Believe me if you put out a product you are going to hear about it whether they like it but you are really going to hear about it if they don’t like it. So it is best right now to be able to take the criticism from the people around you can trust to make the best product. It is about what you are going to end up with and editing is so vital to that. You want to make sure that you spend your time in editing and take the advice of the people that you trust and take their opinions and take those into play.
