How to Practice Scales on a Cornet

Hello my name is Duane Carter and on behalf of Expert Village I'm here to talk about how to play the cornet or trumpet. The next important exercise that you'll be learning as a cornet or a trumpet player are your scales. Scales are essential for building technique it allows the player to utilize all the fingerings on the instrument. Therefore for playing every note that's possible on the horn, we talked a lot about chromatic or the chromatic scale. The chromatic scale is important because it allows you to go through the instrument completely because it ascends and descends through every note by half steps. However the most important scale is you'll be learning are the major and the minor, these are important cause most of western music is based on these 2 scales. Though there are several minor scales we will be discussing the natural minor scale, how these scales differ is by the setup by half steps and whole steps. Each one utilizes a different pattern to produce the scale.
