Hello my name is Duane Carter and on behalf of Expert Village I'm here to talk about how to play the cornet or trumpet. Earlier I may mentioned that the bugle the trumpet or cornet is essentially a bugle when it's played in a open position that is without pressing any of the valves. What happens when you press the valves in lengthens the trumpet therefor the air flows into other slides causing the trumpet to become a longer instrument. In it's open position it plays the B flat harmonic series are over tones here which we talked about before, by adding the valves you can produce 7 different over tone series. The open positioned the 2nd valve, the 1st valve, the combination of one and 2 the combination of 2 and 3, the combination of 1 and 3, and then all 3 valves to press. Utilizing the valves allows the trumpet player to play chromatically throughout the instrument, much away a piano does.
