Tongue Techniques for the Cornet

Hello. My name is Duane Carter and on behalf of Expert Village I'm here to talk about how to play the cornet or trumpet. The tongue plays a very important part in the playing of the cornet or trumpet. It is, first of all, vital for the shaping of the notes. By thinking of the syllables ah and e, you can shape the way the notes are produces coming out of the horn. The ah is used generally for the lower register to get a nice, full body sound where the e is used to add resistance necessary to play higher notes. The tongue is also important for the way that the notes are attacked. Use the tip of the tongue to attack or separate the different notes. Using two or two syllables gives the pronunciation that is need to produce the attacks out of the horn.
