Hello I’m Corey Turner here on ExpertVillage.com and today we’re talking about low budget moving making. We talked about getting them some scripts; give them two or three characters to read. I made the mistake in my first movie that everybody came in; read the same guy, the same girl. Well everybody gave me different performances and I’m only going to be able to cast one as the main guy and one as the main girl. So could these people stretch and be funny, could they stretch and be serious, could they stretch and be mean? You want to make sure that you’re important that you make sure and give people a chance to read for each one of those. You will be surprised how someone could be that mean tough guy, but may not be able to translate that into the nice guy or be able to get sad. If you’re doing a horror movie, a little footnote, make sure that person can scream and make sure they can look like they’re scared. Okay sit them down and have them read their sides. If you have somebody that can read opposite of them, that will help them bounce lines back and forth. Direct them, give them what you want and also let them read the way they interpreted the script. So when they come in, let them read the way they interpreted the script first and then give them some direction and as a matter of fact direct them different than you have intended for the movie. That way you can see did they listen to you? Did they take direction from you? Is it somebody you can work with? And by allowing those to read the script as they feel from the beginning will allow to see if you trust their instincts and where they want to take the characters. So those are the important things of casting.
