Holding Auditions for Indie Filmmaking: Part 1

Hello I’m Corey Turner here on ExpertVillage.com and today we’re talking about low budget moving making. So people show up to your casting call, tell you what, have somebody up front, have somebody meet them, have someone give them sides. What are sides? Lots of couple pages of the script. Allow these people to sit down, let’s say in the lobby or wherever they’re at and give them time to read through the script and memorize their lines. That person who is up front writing their names down, getting their information, making sure they have something to drink, giving them their sides, that person is your spy. You want them to be there to tell you who you can work with, who you can’t work with, who has too big of an ego and who is pleasant to be around. Because sure they have to be talented but remember a low budget film, these people are going to be with you all the time. And most of the time they’re probably going to have to help you carry in your equipment, drinks and whatever else you need. So you want to make sure that you have people that you can work with, it’s a long journey and if you have somebody that’s constantly needing something, is hard to work with, your journey is going to be even that much more tougher and you’ll spend so much more time on one person and the performances of the others won’t get the attention they need from you. So be sure and have somebody kind of be that judge for you when people come in.
