Filming with a Jib: Tips for Indie Filmmaking
Hello, I’m Corey Turner on behalf of Expert Village.com and today we are talking about low budget movie making. Okay, you have budgeted for your camera, thought about your sound and also taken care of your lights. Those are the three basics you have to have to make a good successful low budget film. Now let’s talk about something that is going to increase your production value. This is something that when used in your movie it is going to make it look like you spent a lot more money than you did and make it look like you have resources that you really did not have. What I am talking about is the 8 foot jib behind me. This jib here is going to allow you to go from 6 inches close to the ground up to about 12 feet in the air. It’s going to provide for smooth shots. It is going to allow you to tilt. For instance, you are going to put the camera attached to the front. On the back are your counter weights which are usually to 2 to 2 ½ times the weight of your camera. So I’m running about a 12 pound camera here. I’m going to run at least 24 to 28 pounds on the back.
