How to Plant Seeds

I'm Doug Smiddy of Smiddy's Gardening Services here on behalf of expertvillage.com and welcome to my garden. Today we're here to talk about low maintenance gardening. Alright, now that you've decided what you want to plant we're going to talk about how to plant them. Now in this case I have a packet of flower seeds and the seed packet gives you a tremendous amount of information, so my advice is read it carefully when you buy it too. One of the things you want to be careful of is where you live and you want to make sure the plants that you're going to be starting will tolerate the winters where you live. Now up here in Vermont it's kind of limited up here, we're considered a zone 4. On the back of the seed packets it gives you a little map and it'll tell you when you should plant and if it's tolerant to that particular environment. Also on the back of a seed packet it's going to tell you the height of a plant when it's mature, it's going to tell you how far apart to place the plants, how deep to plant them and about how long it's going to take to germinate. So be careful when you're buying your seeds, again it's going to tolerate the winters wherever you live and again of course it's something you want to grow whether it's a flower, an herb or a vegetable, it's what you want to grow that's most important.
