When you are collecting flow blue, one of the things that you will really need to pay attention to are the chips and cracks in each piece because it is going to dictate how much you are going to pay for these and what the retail value will be. So we are looking at this waste bowl. You can see there is a lot of damage. It has a piece that has actually come out and been replaced. Sometimes they will glue them back in and the adhesive that they used turns yellow over the years and this was not done very well, so you can see there was a gap between the 2 pieces here connected. Also down here, there is a strong line where it has been cracked and its separating. It's not what they would call a tight line because a tight line you would hardly see any of the inside Ironstone. Here you can see the white so you know this is a really loose line and if you hit the pot, it has a really dull sound and you'll see in porcelain when you hit the pot that it sounds dull like that then you have a crack somewhere in your piece. So these two damages really take away from the price of this waste bowl. If I had a choice, I would much rather buy a piece with just a tight hairline in it as opposed to a hairline that has a very dull sound and it is separating from the piece. So that is something that you should consider when buying. Something else I am going to show you here today on this teapot, really one of the typical things that happen with these pots is that they get cracked on the spout and this is really a lot of damage. But considering that this is a flow blue teapot, it would be worth restoring so that is a consideration when you are looking at these kinds of pots to buy. It is not unusual to see chips like this or chips in the cover of the teapot. So when you are looking to buy a piece like this, this type of damage can be repaired and you can afford to do this because the pot is worth a lot more than you buy a waste bowl with a lot of damage that is going to cost you more than probably the piece is worth. So those are things to consider when you are going to buy or acquire chipped pieces that have damage to them.
