Where to Buy a Theremin
On behalf of ExpertVillage.com my name is Mark, and we’re going to talk about where do I get a Theremin? The internet is full of Theremins and Theremin want to bes and Theremin knock offs and Theremin like devices, and some of them are really offensive to the purest who see this as a real Theremin and they don’t see something that looks like a telephone with a photo cell and an oscillator in it as a Theremin. The companies that make real Theremins are few and far between, one of the better ones is Moog, Moog is how it is correctly pronounced but most people call it Moog. Formally Big Breyer music and more recently Moog music, they have their name vac, there are several models they make, and they are all very good. There’s KIA which is a kit form of Theremin they make the I believe it’s called the Theremax and it’s a pretty straight forward kit but quite a few people bring theirs to me because the tuning is fairly difficult without soloscope, frequency counters and that kinds of things that someone like me would have. There are also some really cheap ones, anything that’s $29.95 or less is going to be a really horrible – I mean it makes sounds when you move your hands near it and that’s about it, it’s not a fine instrument anymore than a skateboard is transportation when compared to a car. I teach an electronics class which we do a $2.00 Theremin in it and it sounds like it, but its fun and its a couple hours and it’s very cheap.
