How to Put a Door on its Hinges

Hi, I’m Grady Johnson representing Expert Village.com. Now we are going to quickly go over how to put this back up on its hinge. Now here in the middle it’s not quite the middle but it will give you a little way to get this up off the ground. Kind of get your toe up underneath and get it up on that heel point. Now that heel point down at the bottom is significant because you can see one we are on that this thing does not have a whole lot of weight and then work your way up that way until you can get up to the door. This door is actually pretty heavy. It is a solid door so it has a little better weight to it. So I can move it around pretty easily just because the balance. I don’t have a really strong grab just a matter of getting it with the right balance and most of these doors are like that. Some doors are a little lighter, they are hollow bodied but this is actually a solid door. This is the way they used to build them. So what we are going to do is get that top pinched together first. The thing to be careful of is this right here, you don’t want to pinch your fingers on the left. Keep you toe up underneath the bottom of it. You want to get your toe up underneath of it and then work it in when you get to where you want. Now remember if this goes swing down also get your fingers out of the way before it pinches. Now once you have it on up there, hold it in place and then grab your pins and remember you want to put those pins in a place you can easily reach. That is where they were. Right where I put them. So I am going to go ahead and put this up on the top and get that in a little bit and I am going to work the one down the bottom. Also within reach are the tools I was working with which is my hammer and I am going to just pop this down. I don’t want to go down too far with it because it is going to pop this bottom one out. It is just a little bit old and this thing does not screw like it used to. Work with it a little bit; tighten it up where I want it. Now on the bottom of this, the same thing. Some times the hinges don’t come together, just tap them a little, even them out and they will go right into place for you. You want to check that bottom as well. The paint of course will hold all this together after we paint it. I like to tighten it up more but that is where we need to put that.
