Paint Finish Coat for Roof Eaves

Hello! My name is Grady Johnson and I'm a professional painter, and today I represent expertvillage.com. Now we're going to talk a little bit about painting the exterior eaves on the house with an acrylic latex semi-gloss enamel. Once everything is completely prepped, primed and most importantly, dusted off, you can go ahead and start putting on your finish coat. We're using the semi-gloss because we want a little bit of sheen on this but we don't want it too glossy and too dancy. And we're not going to use a flat because we do want to pull it out from our house a little bit. Now, when you're doing the finish coat, it's similar to what we went over earlier with priming, but with priming we didn't worry as much about the final finish coat. This is the finish coat so we want to pull all those lines out even. Now whenever you're painting with a brush, your brush is leaving little lines from the hairs of the brush. You want those lines to even out with the grain of the wood. That way it'll completely disappear and you get a nice even coat. Remember when you put that brush on the work it's going to leave a mark. When you pull that brush off the work it's going to take that mark off. This is how we even out the lines pulling them out from the corner. You want to start from the top and work your way down. You want to go ahead and cut in those corners first and go ahead and fill that in. You can see it moves a lot quicker this time than it did with the primer because we got a good coat on there already. So get these corners all filled in. This time, unlike priming, we want to get these lines perfectly even. The first thing to do is really get the paint up there. Slap that around a little bit and just get it up there. Now once you've got the paint up there, go ahead and pull the lines together. Now pull those lines out and you can see they just disappear into the wood. Now once you have that done then you want to start bringing down these. This back edge here too. We pull those lines on out. Even that on out. Nice. Now we're going to go ahead and work on down the rest of the eaves, but this is how you paint and pull out the lines properly on the interior of the eaves on the exterior of your house.
