Long Tool for Auto Lockouts

On behalf of Expert Village.com, I’m Jim Koch and today we’re talking about auto lockouts and in this clip we’re going to demonstrate how a locksmith is going to use a long tool. A long tool is the stainless steel rod that’s nearly five feet long, it’s really handy on the newer cars where there’s passenger, side impact airbags, where there’s a lot of electronics in the doors or where the doors are just shielded so tough you can’t get a tool in. We’re going to demonstrate how that works and what you’re going to do is come up to the car. You’re going to insert your wedge and in this case my favorite, the air wedge. The air wedge is an almost critical tool when you’re working with a frameless window like this because the air wedge has less of a tendency to break the tool or to break the window. Basically you insert your wedge, you air it up, this gives you a little bit of a gap to get your tool in. Once you’ve got your window wedged, you take your sleeve and a sleeve is a real important thing when using this tool, because the stainless steel the tool is made out of. If that slides against the glass it can set up a harmonic in the glass and actually shatter the window. So you want to make sure that the sleeve is stuck right on the glass so the tool can have no contact. You bring your tool in and you’re going to reach down until you get to the lock. A little bit of a tricky part is, you’ve got to look and figure out where your lock is and then manually manipulate the lock. Once you’ve got your tool inside the car, you’ve got to find the door lock, position the, the rod on the lock and then manipulate it. In this case the lock has to go forward to be unlocked so you get your tool in place, give it a little push and your door is open.
