Car Alarms & Theft Prevention Tips

On behalf of Expert Village.com, I’m Jim Koch and today we’re talking about auto lockouts and in this clip we’re going to be talking about automotive security, more importantly the alarm systems that are commercially available. An alarm system can be a bit of a pain, but they have their advantages. One of the advantages is like in this car you’ve got a red flashing light on the dashboard when that alarm is activated. A thief walks up here, he sees that light flashing, the first thing he going to think is, if I open that door or I break that window that alarm is going to start wailing. That’s a really good deterrent and like I’ve spoken before in the past, the deterrent is the biggest security you can have because if you make your vehicle or your home a little tougher to get into, the thief’s going to walk on, he’s going to go to the next vehicle. As you can see here, the red light on the dash is flashing and that’s a really good deterrent because a thief walks up, he sees that light flashing, he knows that if he opens the door, that alarms going to start wailing and somebody’s going to come, you know at least pay some attention, maybe even come out running with a you know, big hammer in their hand. Another really good deterrent is the stickers that say you have an alarm system. This is something you really want, even if you don’t have an alarm you can put these stickers on and a thief’s not really going to know the difference. I’ve seen these stickers at Wal-Mart, I’ve seen them at different automotive places and they’re just a small sticker, like this one says automotive theft protection. That means that there’s some type of an alarm system in here and if a thief sees these and actually takes the time to pay attention to. He’s going to think twice about getting into your vehicle. Basically when the thief walks up to your car and he sees the red flashing light on the dash and he sees the sticker, he knows that when he comes up to this car and he opens it, HONK!, that’s what’s going to happen. One of the big things you can do to avoid calling me, is your little remote system, it has a battery in the back and if it stops working you can, couple of things you can do. You can pop the battery back off, a lot of them just pop off with a screwdriver, some of them actually have a screw in it, but it’s a battery that’s commonly available at most of your auto parts, most of your electronic stores, heck, even a lot of grocery stores carry the batteries now. They’re a couple of bucks, first thing you want to try if your alarms not working or it’s not working properly is check that battery, replace it, see what happens, maybe it will cure your problems and save you a service call from me.
