Things to Remember When Practicing a Rally O Course

And we got to sit and down. Down. A important one for this one is that the dog starts to the next one further down. Okay let's go good boy and sit. So we are doing a sit and a walk around so I tell the dog to stay, come back to his side and move on to the next one. Okay and that is the sit 1 step let's go. Ty sit now really I don't want him sitting here I want him sitting in my left hand side. Come around this way right here and sit. Good boy that is the position that I want the dog sitting in so we got to do now 2 steps let's go 1,2 and sit. Not bad, not great and then 3 steps ready let's go 1,2,3 wait and sit better good boy excellent. Okay so we are finished with the short course. Things you want to remember when you are working with your dog is that you can talk to your dog use a lot of praise when your first starting to work with the dog. Make it fun for them especially if you are starting with a young dog. Make it fun have a little bit of a party in between exercises and keep them up beat and positive. Where can you start doing rally obedience? You can call your local town club, go on line to see if there is any training schools around you and see if they teach rally. A great thing because it is so easy to get started your self is that you can get the signs, you can get the book written by Bud Kramer on Rally O and you can make your own sign holders so you can start practicing at home and just make sure that your dog knows all the basic exercises that you need to do with them in order to complete the course. But it is a lot of fun, its a good thing to do with your dog, it is a good way in getting training in and it's nice that this kind of thing is available to people to engage in this sport with there dogs.
