So another exercise you can practice at home is the 1,2,3 step so when you approach the station what you do is the first thing you see is the halt. So you put your dog in a halt as you approach, then you take 1 step and you put your dog in a sit. Then you move forward 2 steps and you put your dog in a sit and then you move forward 3 steps and then you put your dog in a sit and then when you are finish with that you can move to the next station. We are going to practice this one with you Ursula and we are going to do this one off leash and this can be a little tedious for your dog I find that after the second time they are like I have already sat for you about 20 times I'm finish. But you want to try to make it fun and exciting if you are working with a young dog try to have a little game in between each station. Try to keep it out beat and have positive so we see how she does come on Urs, come around, good girl ready, wait. I'm actually going to move this further up here so we have more room to make all of our steps. Ready Ursula come sit yes ready 1 sit yes, 1,2 sit yes, 1,2,3 sit yes good girl good job. So you can see that you want to have the dog sitting by our side each time. Ideally she would have been sitting a little closer but when you are just starting to practice with a dog you are going to take what you can get and I was actually lowering her into each position and she didn't do badly we would try it again. 1 step sit, 1,2 sit, 1,2,3 sit and what you want (good girl okay)what you want is the dog to move forward with you when you are going to the next step so if you got them in a sit and you take a step forward you want to the dog to get up naturally and follow you. She did a good job.
