So who can precipitate in this? Anyone can participate kids of all ages, adults, you can start it off with a puppy or a older dog. There is some basic things that you want to have your dog already familiar with before you start but you can always take classes in it and teach them some of the basic things you want to start. Come here Ursula this is Ursula she has done a little tinny work on Rally obedience already and there is some of the things you want to make sure you dog know just to start. Ursula sit, down, sit, stand, yes good girl a little bit of a delay there. Ursula sit, stay, okay good job. So these are some of the things that you want to make sure you work with your dog a little bit. When you are doing the giving the commands in Rally obedience you can give a hand signal good girl or you can give a verbal signal. Ursula sit yes good girl good job. You want to make sure your dog knows both you can only give one signal so if you have given a hand signal you can't give a verbal signal. But when you first learning how to do it you don't worry how to do that stuff is when you really get to the competition level.
You stated "You want to make sure your dog knows both you can only give one signal so if you have given a hand signal you can't give a verbal signal." Fortunately this is WRONG, you may use UNLIMITED communication in AKC rally - including multiple verbal commands and signals. If the dog is slow to respond to your command and or signal you can loose a point for slow to respond. You can even pat your legs and clap your hands at the two lower levels.
