Looking back at the history of Chinese Qigong, one will find that it originated more than 3000 years ago from the Zhou Dynasty. The earliest and most famous book on medicine comes from the Warring States period and is titled “the Yellow Emperor’s Manual of Internal Medicine”. That book stated “Breathing is the essence of life, regulate the breath can preserve one’s spirit and relax the muscles”. This almost sums up the art of Qigong briefly. A type of Qigong exercise is called Daoyin that was popular in Han Dynasty. In 1973, Chinese found a silk scroll inside the tomb of Emperor Ma of the Han Dynasty. The scroll contained 44 human figures performing Daoyin exercises. Part of the Daoyin exercise holds true for all Qigong nowadays including Tai-Chi Chuan, Eight-section of brocade, and other internal arts. Since Han Dynasty, Qigong has become prevalent, until today.
