Basic Book Binding Techniques

Hi! I'm Gary for Expert Village. What I am going to show you today is basically how we are going to drill holes down the spine of the book and we are going to actually sew a special string, a linen string, that will be used to bind, go through the holes. That is going to be where the strength of the binding comes from and then to just fix all these spots we are going to use some black tape like we saw over here in this book. That is why you can't see the string over here. We put the black tape over the string where we drilled the holes and that's why it is going to actually have a nice look to it. The corners are also going to be protected. You see like if there is a book like this where you see the corners are starting to separate and they come apart which is basically from just a lot of usage and we are going to put this black protective tape and that is also going to help the book last a really long time. You'll also see that a soft cover book, not necessarily a hard cover book, is kind of like a computer textbook type of book, we are going to see that these can be rebound with the cover on them right now, the soft cover or we will see there are certain su0pplies that you can get. You can actually get a book board and it could be used and cut in the shape of the cover of the book. Then we will do the same process when we drill holes in through the book, that will make it secure and with the tape it will look almost like an original outside of the graphical picture and everything on the front of it. But it will look like a regular hard cover book if you want to do it that way.
