What are the Valve Positions on a Trumpet?
The trumpet has got three valves and in order to make sounds we have to have different combinations of valves pressed down and there are 7 basic combinations of valves. You’ve got the open position, your second position with the second valve, the third position with the first valve, the fourth position with valves one and two, the fifth position with valves two and three, the sixth position with valves one and three, and the seventh position with valves one, two and three. First position, second position, third position, fourth position, fifth position, sixth position, seventh position, and they allow you to make all the different sounds on the instrument, like this. First position. Second Position. Third. Fourth. Fifth. Six. And seventh.
