Triple Tonguing Technique for Trumpet Playing
Trumpet players must also learn how to triple tongue as part of the technique that you must learn. The syllables that you would use for triple tonguing would be ‘ta’ ‘da’ ‘ka’, ‘ta-da-ka, ta-da-ka’. I intend to use a rolling triple sound where I’m starting with my tongue on the tip of my teeth and I go to the roof of my mouth and then the back of my mouth. I’m probably not very good. Your teeth, roof of your mouth, back of your mouth. Tip of the tongue on your teeth, top of the mouth, back of the mouth, ‘ta-da-ka’, ‘ta-da-ka’, ‘ta-da-ka’, ‘ta-da-ka’. And it sounds something like this. You might want to use some of the same techniques as when you’re double tonguing, by slowing it down and isolating each part. Ta-ta-ta-ta-ta, da-da-da-da-da, on the roof of your mouth and ka in the back, ka-ka-ka-ka-ka. Until everything sounds even and it’s nice and clear.
